Currently Hilary Claire is touring with The Flyin "A"s as well as doing studio work in Central Texas. With her soulful voice, breathtaking songwriting, and lyrical harmonies, Stuart and Hilary were a match made in heaven. With a ballad, Hilary's voice can inspire a tear in the eye of the toughest listener one minute, then blow you out of your seat with a killer blues tune the next. Before you know it, her Texas Roots will take over and have you out on the floor and you'll be two steppin' with some of that good old Honky Tonk Country. "Hilary is a petite beauty with a powerful set of pipes." -- Paul Barker, Barker House Concerts |
Previously known as Hilary Tompkins until Oct. '05 when she made an honest man out of Stuart Adamson...(or did Stuart make and honest girl out of her???) Hilary has always had music in her blood. "Hilary is one of those petite women with a HUGE VOICE and a true songwriter's talent. Her songs speak of pain and recite tales of love and hope… In addition to their talents, these two just flat out have a great time with their music! " -- Connie Gray Georgetown House Concerts Growing up in the Austin Area, Hilary got her first experience singing Gospel and Jazz. By age 18 she was sitting in with a few jazz groups around Austin as well. She went on to Study Music in Lubbock, Texas where she found a love of Classic Country Two-steppers and sang with a Blues Band. Hilary Claire met Stuart in the middle of a guitar lesson out at Camp Inertia (KFF Camp Site) where Adamson sat down to jam. Finally the song circle came to Hilary and she commenced to turn her guitar over, singing "In My Head" with only a little rhythm tapped out on the back of her guitar. "I thought you had to play guitar to be an official 'songwriter' so I was doing my best to improve at it. I was horrified when Stuart walked up to jam and I was just trying to learn some new chords! My dog hadn't been able to help me with that yet! So when it got to me I thought...here goes...and I sang an a ccapella song I had written the year before!" Since joining forces, Hilary Claire has emerged as an unstoppable rhythm guitar player and is now turning her sights to the mandolin. Maybe Fiddle will be next? In 2005 Stuart Adamson and Hilary Claire combined forces in life and music to create the duo Tompkins and Adamson. Coming together, they have finally got their first record in the works, and are making the long awaited transition to full out band with "The Flyin' A's" for 2006! |
Stuart grew up performing in San Antonio. Stuart lived and worked in Nashville for 7 years; spending his days writing and his nights playing clubs such as the Blue Bird Café and Douglas Corner. In 1998 Adamson made the move back to Texas planting his boots firmly in Austin where his creative energies have flourished. Stuart's travels down the country music path have taken him to many places. From the honky-tonk heavens of Historic Gruene Hall and Floore's Country Store outside of San Antonio, to the songwriter's circles at the Bluebird Café in Nashville, he has honed his skills as a performer as well as writer over the years. From the large dance halls to more intimate performances, Adamson has an electrifying presence that captivates audiences. Adamson's 2005 CD, I've Got Lonesome, a collection of songs rooted in the rich heritage of the Texas Music's tradition of shuffles, ballads and up-tempo rockers. "I love to rock one minute, dig my boot heals in with shuffle the next, then let the emotions fly with a simple, pure ballad," Adamson smiles. I've Got Lonesome ranges from honky-tonk, grab-a-beer-and-your-favorite-girl two-steps to romantic cowboy, soul and groove songs. Adamson's lyrics are both witty and fun. He leads you onto the dance floor with the catchy chuggin' cowboy rhythm of "Cold One" and tug at your heartstrings with songs like "One Car in the Driveway". "Stuart Adamson's latest release, I've Got Lonesome, is a fine collection of original honky-tonk songs that will make you want to roll back the rug and dance." -- Joe Angel, Random Routes, KEOS 89.1 FM, College Station/Bryan, TX "….'I've Got Lonesome,' a well-crafted original tune that deserves to be a radio hit, and a superb cover of the previously unreleased Jon Ims tune, 'Move On,'…Stuart sings, 'I don't need your sympathy, I've got lonesome,' but after listening to this fine CD, I'm more inclined to think: I don't need Bob Wills or Willie, I've got Stuart!" -- Austin Kessler, Live Oak Coffeehouse Concert, Austin, Texas Adamson's 2001 release, Weekends Were Made for Living, is a wonderful, high energy honky-tonker's two-steppin' dance hall experience balanced with the down-home heartache of good ballads. Stuart's pure and expressive voice, coupled with his songwriting has all the traits of a true Texas treasure. Currently Stuart performs with his partner Hilary Claire around the Lone Star State as well as tours throughout the mid and southwest United States. When not on the road, Stuart takes time to play with his kids and focuses on writing fresh material to share with their audiences. |
Stuart's honky-tonk, grab your partner, and dance with me, sound reflects his family's original Texas roots. Growing up in San Antonio, Stuart was raised on a steady diet of Texas Music. Even the symbol Stuart uses above, on his CD and website is a reflection of his Texas heritage, using the brand his ancestors have used on their family ranch in Abilene, Texas. |
